Mega cool site for what I can gather is a club night somewhere in Japan. Great use of typography and navigation, the menu wraps the character in the centre, you drag your view in 3D space and the text slides around. Your view zooms in/out when clicking on items. Really nicely designed, with a really good use of 3D… love it…

The Turn By Fredo Viola

⊆ December 13th, 2008 by Dan | ˜ No Comments »

Interesting site of Fredo Viola – a visual/singer/audio artist. A large rotating shape containing peices of his work collide with each other and can be thrown around and interacted with. The works can then be seen by dragging into an area where they then expand. Really interesting way of navigation! You can even control the gravity, rotation, bounce etc of the world they occupy.

Play Auditorium

Interesting game where you direct particles to fill sound bars – making a nice melody along the way. Variety of different levels, nice idea which is crafted well in Flash.

Hobnox – Audiotool

⊆ December 11th, 2008 by Dan | ˜ No Comments »

Incredible website that emulates the Roland set of synthesisers, drum machines, effects pedals and so on. You can control everything from which components you use to the tempo, rhythm, to effects – all to make compositions and sound effects. You can create a profile and save your creations and even download 5 minutes worth of material. Incredible amount of detail – you control all of the individual knobs and buttons, drag leads into mixers and boxes – and it looks great too. An example of how complex you can make Flash 10 applications…

Safe Trip Home

⊆ December 9th, 2008 by Dan | ˜ No Comments »

Website promoting the female vocal artist Dido and her new album ‘Safe Trip Home’. Featuring film director’s videos that are inspired by the idea ‘what home means to them’, they accompany selected songs from the album – the audience can also respond with their opinions which then float around the globe and when you are looking at specific videos. Navigated by dragging around a 3D globe and viewing the various videos.

It’s a really nicely crafted site, lots of attention to detail, nice typography, and a great interface, really easy to use and great to look at. Really a rich site and a nice idea for promoting a new album, you get the hear snippets of the songs, see nice visuals and interesting short films, and get emotional responses from people all over the world…

Samsung Music

⊆ October 27th, 2008 by Dan | ˜ No Comments »

Interesting site promoting Samsung’s music phones. You can create your own 3D ’soundscape’, the closer various colourful blocks are to the phone the louder their respective sounds are. There is a wide selection of sounds, which you drag around in the 3D space, you can save it and share it and so on, the gallery is quite nice too. I like the idea and the way you can drag the blocks of sound to create a virtual space which you can then explore also in first person perspective, pretty cool.

Julian Velard

Fantastic website for singer/songwriter Julian Velard. You are free to explore his mind and play puzzles, reveal music and experience his world. Incredibly addictive you want to explore every area, and discover all the scenes, it draws you in and of course the background music is his own. Great way of keeping the audience captive and providing an enjoyable way of promoting yourself. I played on this for over half an hour and loved it, really well designed and executed was a joy to play with.

Leslie Low

Leslie Low

Website of Singapore based singer/songwriter Leslie Low. Explore an environment inspired by the music which acts as a backdrop and soundtrack to the visual fly through. Lots of layers that affect the scenes through different blending modes and provide a very visually interesting experience. Talking about ‘experiential’ sites, this is a nice example, nice attention to detail and I like the ‘about’ section (leslie low button) where the artist talks through his history and inspiration – which all overlays the background.

Overall the site provides a calming diversion that makes you want to explore all aspects of the site and provides a nice insight into the artist.

Be Online B

Be Online B

Really interesting concept – an interactive music video. Arcade Fire’s ‘Neon Bible’ is shown in such a way, you are taken through the song and can interact with elements of the video. I love the idea and i’m quite amazed that there are not more of these around. Its a great way of involving the audience and keep their attention throughout.

Japanese Sony Walkman promotional site, using Papervision 3D to provide an enjoyable visual and audio feast! Explore faces mapped to 3D objects that dance in time to music, see them displayed in landscapes and mapped to various different shapes. An extremely well executed and fun Flash site, its so great to see experiential sites like this, just good fun and promoting a positive image for the Sony Walkman.
